Fish Pass Design
We specialise in the design of all modern fish passes and fish easements, including technical baffled fish passes, traditional pool and traverse passes, natural fishways/rock ramps and low-cost easements. At an early stage of the design, we liaise with developers, regulatory bodies and civil engineers to develop the most appropriate and cost effective approach that is tailored to the specifics of the site and fish species present.
Once an approach is agreed, we provide full hydraulic modelling and calculations for the preferred design. A full CAD facility (including 3D solid-model engineering drawings) is available in house for the design, as well as the capability to produce full civil construction drawings.
Our experience throughout the whole fish pass design, fabrication and build process means that we are often able to suggest and design innovative fish passage solutions, with significantly lower total costs than more traditional designs and builds.
We are able to design fish passes for an extremely wide range of sites, from large lowland rivers to small upland streams with flows ranging from a few litres per second to several cubic metres per second. These include very large, multi-flight Larinier passes, Alaskan A passes, large and small rock-ramps and natural bypass channels. In our experience there is always a solution to a fish passage problem.
